Frugality....Can I do It?

I can be frugal when I want to but then I go shopping and see a sale or November is here and all the Christmas decorations and ornaments are in at the local stores then I just can't resist and it all is just out the door. (I found some really neat ornaments this year)

Well my friend Meredith has issued a challenge for January. Her challenge is to not spend anything other than groceries, household items and gas since we end up spending so much during November and December. So I'm going to try really hard. We live in a small town so there is not much shopping but boy Walmart can really get me...especially the fabric section.

I don't know of any birthday parties this month but have 4 baby gifts that I need to make. Luckily they are all girls and I already have all the fabric I need. So can I do it? We'll see...Let me know if you will do it to and we can hold each other accountable.

By the way Amber and Lisa...this means no eating out for us on Sunday!

Also, I'm already thinking about next Christmas and gifts I can be making or bartering. For those who know me well know that this is normal for me. So happy shopping, couponing, etc to those who want to accept Meredith's challenge along with me.

Our Walmart discontinued fabric/sewing stuff last fall. It's weird now without it. I have to go to Hobby Lobby or JoAnn's for that kind of stuff. And those places aren't convenient for me so I'm not tempted. Not that I was anyway. The scrapbook section is a little more alluring.

I saw Meredith's challenge but am not participating. Mainly because I don't do a lot of extra spending anyway. One thing I've learned when shopping is if I stay out of those "Sections of Temptation" {read with booming voice of doom} then I can't be tempted.

Groceries and eating out is my tough spots. I'll be redoing our budget for 2009 after the 15th (the first paycheck of the year when I'll see how much we really get to take home) and am already starting to think of where to cut and where to add a little more.

I'll be writing about all of this in the coming weeks - but my in-laws are here now so no writing for me. I'm looking forward to hearing how you do with this challenge. I think you can do it!

I think eating out should count as groceries...you gotta eat anyway!

Frown, frown, frown on no Sunday lunches.

Totally with ya though....I end up buying ridiculous stuff at Walmart, like a new cleaner (that I don't even need) or something silly like a new makeup bag (although I have a gazillion at home). I'm really going to try and stick with Mer's challenge, too. Although the no eating out scares me....because Sonic just got its Dollar Menu....what I've been waiting for!!!!! :)

I've been challenged too--and so am posting a lot about being a frugal housewife. Needs vs. wants, how to use what we already have, economy.

I clicked over here via Meredith's blog when you commented about your kiddos fighting. I just wanted to let you know you are not in this boat alone. My oldest 2 fight like crazy which drives me INSANE!!! Hang in there. My sister and I fought until we both got married. Now she is my very best friend and I couldn't live without her.

I have jumped on the frugal bandwagon myself. I don't consider myself a big spender. However, I have the hardest time resisting when there is a sale . . . like I am going to miss out on something.

Happy Monday!
